A breast lift, medically called mastopexy, removes stretched skin and reshapes the breast tissue so the breast sits higher and looks firmer. The nipple and areola are moved up and can be made smaller.
It changes shape and position, not size. Volume can be added or reduced at the same time if needed.
Breasts swell during pregnancy and feeding, then shrink. The skin stays stretched, so the breast hangs lower and the upper half looks empty.
Major weight loss empties the breast of fat but leaves the skin behind. The breasts look deflated and fold over the chest wall.
Sagging is graded by nipple position. In grade 2 the nipple sits 1 to 3 cm below the breast fold, and in grade 3 it is the lowest point of the breast.
The dark skin around the nipple often widens with pregnancy and age. A lift trims it to a smaller, rounder size that matches the new shape.
A ring of skin is removed around the areola only. It suits mild sagging and leaves a scar around the areola edge.
The scar circles the areola and runs straight down, like a lollipop. It suits moderate sagging and reshapes the breast well.
A third scar is added along the fold under the breast. It suits severe sagging with plenty of loose skin to remove.
The lower breast tissue is folded upward to fill the empty upper breast. It adds fullness without an implant in suitable breasts.

A breast scan may be arranged first, depending on your age. Stop smoking 4 to 6 weeks before surgery and stop aspirin 2 weeks before.
Breast lift surgery is done under general anesthesia and takes about 1 to 3 hours. Skin is removed, tissue is reshaped and the nipple is raised.
You go home the same day or after one night, wearing a soft support bra. The breasts feel tight and look high at first.
